The Maximum Controls MAX 1700 FS PRO is a fail-safe, high-traffic commercial brushless DC slide gate operator built for gated communities, apartment complexes, industrial facilities, and public storage applications. It handles level gates up to 1,700 lbs and 35 ft at speeds up to 12 inches per second, rated UL 325/991 Class I through IV. "Fail-safe" means back-drivable manual operation upon loss of both AC power and battery: the gate can be pushed back via local keyed disconnect, remote keyed disconnect, or jog switch, each of which independently disengages the dynamic braking system. In closed position, that same brake resists forced entry and triggers an audible alarm with relay output if push-back is attempted.

The direct drive system uses a Size 60, 20:1 cast iron gearbox with no internal belts, chains, or pulleys. The brushless DC motor uses Hall Effect sensing at over 30 positions per inch of gate travel to execute precise ramp-up, ramp-down, and instantaneous obstruction stops. The Matrix III Advanced Controller logs 8,000 events to non-volatile memory, downloadable by USB for field or factory diagnostics.
