The LiftMaster L979M is a wireless keypad that provides PIN-based access to a garage door opener without a remote or key. It is compatible with all LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Raynor, and most Craftsman garage door openers manufactured after 1997, with the exception of the Craftsman Series 100. It is also compatible with most LiftMaster gate operators, commercial door operators, and external receivers, making it a practical addition to a range of residential and commercial access control setups.

Programming is determined by the color of the opener's LEARN button. Openers with a white LEARN button unlock the full myQ app feature set: PINs can be managed remotely, temporary guest PINs can be issued by number of hours or number of openings (1 to 255 for each), and battery charge level is visible in the app without physically inspecting the keypad. Openers with yellow, purple, orange, or red LEARN buttons support multiple permanent PINs and temporary PINs programmed directly from the keypad. The One Button Close feature allows the garage door to be closed by pressing the HOME button alone, without entering a PIN. The illuminated keypad remains functional in low-light conditions, and the unit is designed to withstand outdoor temperature ranges from -4°F to +149°F.
